The English language well it was made to confuse, Lodges can be a houses usually on estates like Sandringham but we also called the man made lakes or ponds at the side of mills and works, lodges, the Big Lodge area was all industrial up to 50 years ago this fed the all the works around, one was a bleach works, this is the reason for the small lodge & top lodge, even the weirs along the river were part of the industry. Well most of the mills have gone and we are left with the lodges, some have been filled in but most are allowed to go back to nature, thankfully.
