Thursday 14 August

Another dry morning on the Lower Burgh

The Hogweed seeds must be good as the slug is at least 5 foot of the ground

Three quarters way up was the snail
That's a fair shell to haul up for a bit of dinner

We went to the Spinners Arms at Cowling for dinner
On the car park we felt lots of eyes watching us - on looking up we spied the cattle all trying to get under the small trees - they must have known we were in for a down pour as it started raining as we set off home.

Sunday 8 June

Another sunny morning that had all sorts of goodies out for us to look at.

I had to put three photos up of this tiny (less than an inch across) day flying moth, I counted over 10 fluttering about on the rucks - I had never seen them before but perhaps I just did not notice them, any way a first sighting for me.
I loved the colour and the white tinge to the wing edge
 Chimney Sweep -  Odezia atrata

 Chimney Sweep -  Odezia atrata

 Chimney Sweep -  Odezia atrata

 Common Bistort  - Persicaria bistorta

Currant Gall - Neuroterus quercusbaccarum another of the galls that the oak is host to.

Sputnik Spider - Paidiscura pallens found it on the same oak tree we found the weird spider egg sac last year.

I am still waiting for an ID for this snail - looked like a Rams Horn, but not quite right.

Misty view of the Big Lodge

Bugle - Ajuga reptans looking wonderful

Garden Snail lost it's way as it is sat on one of the lodge fence posts

Woodruff - Galium odoratum now in full flower - given the chance this is a good ground covering plant - perhaps too good in some places.

Dry morning

 Dotted Loosestrife - Lysimachia puntacta
I think  this is Great Pond Snail waiting for confirmation - It has been ID as an Amber Snail.
I may have seen it before but just thought it was a Great Pond Snail, so a first for me.

Black Headed Gulls avoiding the tern rafts as they are nesting and in keep clear mode.
Old roots that I always thought looked like steps and now I think they may well have been used long ago - bricks at the base look like they were put in to help.
 Weir
Wood Avens - Geum urbanum
