Thursday 5 March

Above freezing but again no sunshine

The noise was deafening as we approached the bottom end of the lodges

Looking up I was surprised to see lots of Black Headed Seagulls in the trees, I know they sit on walls, fences etc., yet seeing them perched in trees looked strangely unreal, perhaps I was scarred when younger watching Hitchcock's Birds :):)

Wednesday 4 March

Still above freezing but no sunshine today

 Dandelion - Taraxacum
Dead Gull

Griff the lonely duck still pining for Micky who we hoped would be joining him on a private pond but the RSPCA seemed to have forgot about visiting the pond and answering queries.

Seems the crowd is growing, I will soon stop feeding as the weather picks up and more people come in the good weather.

Not many clouds in the sky

Black Headed Gull

Trying some new feed for the wildfowl, a corn mix, they seem to like it. I am still feeding the smaller birds with sunflower hearts they love them and no waste.

Friday 5 December

Mild this morning

Still looks too cold for standing in the river

Top Lodge showing the Reed Bed

Viewing Platform with the Reed Bed, the Top Lodge was the first in line on the channel feed from the River Yarrow, it's still connected but the water has to be paid for if the channel is opened to fill or top up the lodge it's on a meter, when I first heard this years ago after enquiring why the lodge was not being filled after winter I thought it was a joke but it's true - the lodges all fill naturally - yet on the other side of the coin the lodges overflow into the river.

It was above freezing this morning but the ice on the lodge had not thawed this Black Headed Gull looked puzzled

There use to be cottages on the edge of this lodge one was a forge which was work by a water wheel, the old name for these channels was Mill Races - I have never worked out where the wheel was but I might make that a 2015 project

Friday 7 February

We stayed dry although the morning was damp.
Still not venturing too far, I have still not a lot of movement in my shoulder so I am not chancing the hills and valleys without my trusty stick.

Saturday 29 June

Dry morning

 Dotted Loosestrife - Lysimachia puntacta
I think  this is Great Pond Snail waiting for confirmation - It has been ID as an Amber Snail.
I may have seen it before but just thought it was a Great Pond Snail, so a first for me.

Black Headed Gulls avoiding the tern rafts as they are nesting and in keep clear mode.
Old roots that I always thought looked like steps and now I think they may well have been used long ago - bricks at the base look like they were put in to help.
