Thursday 15 November

Dry & Mild

The Ramblers are gathering
On our way
Dipper at the weir
We worry if Charlie Robin doesn't show
Look what else turned up on the path, one very large Saddleback Pig - we knew she was about, yes the smell and the destruction they cause grubbing for roots - she was very friendly but determined not to move or go any where she did not want to, we did not argue with her :)

To show how that snout can rip the ground up

Monday 12 April

Mild again, we did our usual walk as it is shopping day.

Found Pignut leaves coming through on the barrow.

The root is supposed to be quite tasty, only trouble is they never grow straight up so you have to dig about to find the root (nut), we might have a go at finding one this year.

Wood Pigeon
It was clearing the food quicker than we could feed it.

Roy (nick name Roy of the Rovers because he supports Blackburn Rovers), Arnold & George.

Roy, Carol (me) & George.

Male Fern just through.

Monday 29 March

Mild but rain in the air, we enjoyed our walk, Meg flushed a cock pheasant in Spring Wood, plus at least 15 Wood Pigeon in the small open area, made Meg's day.

Managed to find a Butterbur - Petasites hybridus on level ground - made it a bit easier to get my photo.

Primrose those buds were almost open.

Ramblers waiting for me.

Saturday 6 March

The day got off to a good start, I was out in the garden at 6am with Meg when I thought I would see how the patch at the back of the greenhouse was doing, crocus buds and remnants of sow-bread, plus a beautiful field mouse sat motionless, it vanished in a blink, the nick it went into was minute, but it was in there as seconds later a little nose was testing the air followed by those big eyes, I left it to have it's breakfast wishing I'd had my camera in my hand.

Met up with Sue & Debbie, saw no one on our walk and not a sign of the deer or fox.

Back at the lodges we met a few walkers, tern raft has been cleaned up and prepared for the return of the terns (hopefully)
We have a good group of folk all with something to add to the enjoyment of the walks.

Swans still following for food.
Edward always first to the table.

Waiting for me again.

Sunday 28 February

Just above freezing again.
We met up with Sue & Debbie.

The dogs always have a good time, they all do their own thing.

Meg & Dolly are always on the look out for treats, they know all the people with biscuits in their pockets.

Walking toward the gully in Spring Wood.

Meg checking up on me - making sure I am not giving any treats out.

Dolly & Jake - we haven't a clue what they could see or hear.

Harvey's doing it now.

Billy waiting for the ball.

Arnold being rounded up

Oak Marbles on a tiny sapling.

Being stalked by two Magpies.

Saturday 20 February

Just on freezing this morning, we are having plenty of visitors to the feeders.
We met up with Debbie and the boys, had a good walk and talk, well that's what it's all about isn't it we love to mix and yet we also accept times of isolation, gives us time to reflect on all sorts of things, I find I am more inclined to think about the past and how we enjoyed life years ago even though we had to go to work, I am still puzzled how I fit it all in. (must have had a secret tardis)

Collared Dove with an overgrown top beak, it seems to cope with feeding.

Blackbird

Swans on Top Lodge checking the nest site out.
Back to the Big Lodge.
No sooner had they got back on the Big Lodge, they were after Billy no mates, it's that time of year again.

Ramblers waiting for me.

Sunday 10 January

We scrambled down Sunny Brow to see this stunning sunrise, the weather forecast has given more snow and bitter winds, the red sky we always associate with a warning looks like it could be right.

Looking up Sunny Brow

Down we have still got to get to the bridge.

We found this Shrew (dead) on the barrow yesterday, looked like it had been dropped by a bird, we left it on a post - Sue had a look in the afternoon, it was gone, let's hope it helped to feed some hungry creature.

Ramblers

Ramblers at the Slippery Log.

Bottom end of Spring Wood.

Photos of The Weir almost frozen solid

We got home safely, enjoyed our breakfast and of coarse our cup of tea.
