Beautiful sunny morning

Canada Geese

 Goat Willow - Salix caprea

Steps to the old cottages, must have been wonderful on days like this to step out and see the lodges, then again it was a hard short life for most.

Dry & Cool

Meg heading for the steps

These roots are right at the side of the steps - I have no doubt that at sometime they were used to get up to the field and path before the paths were altered.

Wednesday 12 February

Dry morning my shoulder is a lot better, can't do any weight lifting but who wants to :)

We decided to have a look around the old cottage area that we see from across the top lodge, I must put some old photos on to show you how beautiful they looked back when life was hard and yet values meant  more, there I go on my maudlin soap box, I have got down and have relaxed.
This is the old cottage area - steps that are being slowly covered by mother nature, she reclaims most things back after we leave.

I always feel sad that we have not documented this area enough, not a lot of photos of what was a busy industrial community.
 Daisy - Bellis perennis
Hartstongue - Asplenium scolopendrium lots in the old brickwork
Lords & Ladies - Arum maculatum
Scarlet Elf Cup - just one

Tuesday 20 August

Dry Morning

Found this Common Evening-primrose - Oenothera biennis hidden behind the lamp post, not far from the tomato that was growing out of the nick in the pavement, I can only think the seeds are being carried on the wind, none of the local gardens have Evening Primrose.
Even though it is called Common Evening Primrose it has become a bit of a rarity so I have sent details off to the county recorder.
 Moorhen
 Fishladder
These steps use to be the only way down to the weir area but since the new wheelchair path has been built it is not the most popular way.
Tansy - Tanacetum vulgare this is the place for herbs the old cottage gardens.
Apples near Dry Bones don't know if these are bakers or eaters time will tell.

Wednesday 17 April

Damp again

Found these steps while looking for plants - they must have been used by the cottagers years ago.
This is the Water Wheel Pit of the long gone Duxbury Corn Mill apart from the tell tale large stones all around it would be hard to believe there was a little community in this area, plus a few coal mines.
I took this photo stood in the pit - it is full of debris now.
The intact wall that the water flowed over back into the River Yarrow.
Large Stones - those two mature trees are a substantial size to give you an idea of the stones
Walls like this all over the area.
