Windy & Cool

Took all the decorations off the tree for this year, we will put them away till next year.

 The sky was on fire with the rising sun

 Our home is beyond the trees on the skyline

 This was a sad moment, one of the ancient Beech in Burgh Wood lost a large limb, it does not look good for this tree. 

I wonder how many generations of children have swung across the gully from that limb, there was always a rope dangling from it.

 

 This part of the wood has been neglected and needs a bit of restoration

Large patch of Opposite Leaved Golden-Saxifrage - Chrysosplenium oppositifolium looking really healthy

Some thing to make us smile - people come to see our Kingfisher

and he rarely disappoints

We ventured into Burgh Wood this morning

We wanted to look at one of the large Beech that toppled a few years ago,

the fungi are now making themselves at home

 As you can see it is still a sturdy piece of wood

 The Rangers made it as safe as possible 

 Foxglove - Digitalis purpurea growing under the old trunk these will flower next year

 These fungi are just a few that are on the Beech

This fallen Beech looks like it will be here for a long time providing shelter and being host to many fungi, insects, plants and animals.

We made for the Barrow Field on Eaves Green, to visit the pond that was put in when the new houses were built

 This is one of the old Beech in Burgh Wood - it's huge, the kids use this one to attach a rope swing, to cross the gully, none on it at the moment so I did not get to try it out :)

 The new pond and some of the houses, Sue has seen Great Crested Newts in it 

 We only managed a frog

Some sort of shelter probably built by the local school children - it was quite good

Cool morning, our walk took us through Dry Bones to Duxbury then the trek home

Hard Fern - Blechnum spicant - we have only found it in two places in the valley up to now, this is the biggest patch

River Yarrow

Plenty of these small bridges along the Yarrow

A bit of colour with this bridge

This one spans the Yarrow so is more substantial - Bing, Billy & Toots are way ahead of us - Meg, who knows where she is, she does her own thing following her nose :)
