Tuesday 24 December

Another damp day, we have to be thankful we have not got the weather some of the country is having.

 Blue Tit
 Christmas Tree
 Deer track
 Dipper
Tree that's for the axe in the New Year
it is dangerous so will have to be cut, it won't be an easy job as it is in a difficult spot
One of the old Silver Birch felled
This view would be looking at Drybones Cottage several years back but it was burned down by mindless yobs, I wonder what they will feel like in years to come -
More trees felled, they are really going to town this time - let's hope it won't be many more
I don't come from this neck of the woods but I often see shadows/ghosts/memories when I look at the weir, so locals must see their kin in this area
Bing - he's truly become a handsome lad :)

Saturday 20 November

Just above freezing this morning, with the sun out it felt warmer.

Arnold & Meg on Sunny Brow, this is our usual way down to the river and park, we have other ways but this is our quickest only minutes from home.

Stood on Sunny Brow Bridge looking back.

Up stream toward Duxbury.

Arnold & Meg on the Bridge.

Down Stream and eventually the sea.

Path to the lodges.

Our only find this morning Deer prints, not far in front of us as Meg stayed nearby - she is a bit of a coward with anything bigger than a rabbit.

Take Care.

Tuesday 23 March

Cool this morning - we saw very little, we did find deer tracks but it looked like one on it's own, it spent a bit of time in the area, the hoof track was small and just sauntered off toward the top lodge.

Saturday 12 September

We had our usual detour around the Barrow Field.
They are still digging and making mounds.
Beech Mast
Notice this Cormorant on the Big Lodge very busy catching plenty of fish.
Deer Prints - we had seen the deer near Sunny Brow Bridge - a youngster and probably its mother, they crossed the river and went toward the rucks.
Fly Agaric
Knotgrass
Seven Spot Ladybird on Beech.
Prickly Sow Thistle
Found at the base of Beech - I think it may be Shaggy Scalycap.
Redshank
Wild Turnip among the Redshank
This is the spider on my trellis it had caught a wasp.
Soon had it wrapped for later.

Back to business waiting for the next victim.

Thursday 27 August

We had a good walk over to Duxbury and then came back passed the new building site, came through Burgh Wood we wandered around lots of fungi beginning to show.

The deer must have been nearby as we found two sets of tracks - not seen them for months.
Field Maple in the middle of some brambles it was struggling but looks healthy.
Thought this was a wasp at first but after it landed on the Angelica could see no sting, had it ID - Tenthredo sp. a saw fly
I think this is Golden Spindle - this was in Burgh Wood, last year we found it in Spring Wood.
Holly Leaves just look like they have been polished.
Conkers are almost ready, we would have picked this one as children but we were usually disappointed as they weren't quite ready. Plenty this year, especially at the top they look like winners.
Hoverfly - Eristalis sp. possibly arbustorum
Another Hoverfly - Leucozona glaucia
One very cheeky rabbit.
This was one of the biggest spiders I have come across. A crane fly flew into the web - she did not even bother to wrap it for later, it was gone in seconds.
Another fly on the Angelica - Tachinid Fly

Hoverflies etc., ID by http://www.dipteristsforum.org.uk/ they are always helpful

Sunday 18 January

Dry this morning - George caught us up as we got to the bridge, Debbie and Dawnie were on their way to Primrose.
We had a good walk into Spring Wood, the deer were nearby, but we did not see them, found tracks on one of the paths.
The sun was out making it look like spring on the big lodge.
The gulls appreciate the Tern Raft.
Take Care.
