Tuesday 14 June


On to the Lower Burgh Meadow this morning, we had an excellent two hours just wandering about and checking for the Bee Orchid - we weren't disappointed.

 Bee Orchid - Ophrys apifera even though we have a good idea where to look they are not easy to spot, I think this one looks like it's laughing.

 Bee Orchid - Ophrys apifera two in this spot one in bud and the other has been eaten by slugs.
 Pyramidal Orchid - Anacamptis pyramidalis there are plenty of these in this area.
 Common Spotted Orchid - Dactylorhiza fuchsii - all over the place this year.

 Green Sawfly - rhogogaster viridis on Perforate St John's Wort - Hypericum perforatum - it was a beautiful colour blending well with the leaf.
Perforate St John's Wort - Hypericum perforatum not in flower yet.
 Common Figwort - Scrophularia nodosa var. bobartii - another rarity on the meadow. Unfortunately it's being eaten away by the figwort weevil.
 Common Knapweed  - Centaurea nigra

On the way home we found Common Black Ground Beetle - Pterostichus melanarius. Not pretty to some but still a friend in the garden.
